On January 3, 2020, MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) officially announced the issuance of the license for China Broadcasting Network Corporation to use the 5G testing frequency on the 4.9GHz band. China Broadcasting Network Corporation is allowed to establish 5G networks in 16 cities, which are Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Xi’an, Nanjing, Guiyang, Changsha, Haikou, Shenzhen, Qingdao, Zhangjiakou, Shenyang, Changchun, and Xiong’an. According to MIIT, the licensing of the 5G testing frequency effectively guarantees the frequency resources that telecommunicationsuppliers need to test 5G systems, which is a clear signal to the industry that MIIT will further promote the development of 5G industry chain.
China Broadcasting Network Corporation, with the 5G commercial license issued by MIIT, has become the fourth 5G telecommunications supplier in China after China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom. The 5G testing frequency license officially authorizes China Broadcasting Network Corporation to use 5G frequencies in the 16 cities, which is conducive to the promotion of 5G network constructions and development of 5G application. Meanwhile, individual users and industries have more choices to enjoy 5G services.
China Broadcasting Network Corporation has long been working on the 5G industry. In the first World 5G Convention during November 20-23, 2019, the Chair of China Broadcasting Network Corporation said that 5G would be available for commercial use in 2020 and be applicable in individual user services and vertical industries. In 2021, China Broadcasting Network Corporation’s5G network will be built into a new type of network with positive energy, wide connection range, universal access, new applications, and good service. Since China Mobile also has the license to use the 5G testing frequency in the 4.9GHz band, it is likely that China Broadcasting Network Corporation will cooperate with them to build the 5G network together.
In the next step, MIIT will continue to focus on the construction of China Broadcasting Network Corporation’s 5G network, help the corporation with the deployment of its base stations, radio interference coordination and other work to constantly improve the network and services.
