On October 28, 2019, the Qingdao Forum on International Standardization 2019 was held in Qingdao, attracting more than 730 attendees from ISO, IEC, ITU, MIIT, and a variety of enterprises, colleges and research institutes. With the theme of “International Standards and the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, the forum aims at establishing an international dialogue platform that gathers, fosters, connects and allocates high-end standardization resources.

Dany Sturtewagen, CENELEC President and Chair of Joint CEN and CENELEC Presidential Committee, was invited to attend the forum and made a presentation named “International Standards and the Fourth Industrial Revolution – The European Experience”. In his speech, Dany introduced the European Standardization System, European practice on convergence with international standards, standardization’s role in the European regulatory system, Europe’s “New Approach” framework, European digital transformation strategy and standardization work. Dany’s speech increased the visibility of the European Standardization System in China, introduced European good practice measures in international standardization, which will benefit Chinese standardization stakeholders in developing their own standardization strategy and direction.
