The Seconded European Standardization Expert in China (SESEC) is a visibility project co-financed by the European Commission (EC), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). This initiative is the continuation of three previous phases, SESEC I (2006-2009), SESEC II (2009-2012),and SESEC III (2014-2017). The project is led by CEN and supported by a Steering Committee composed of one representative from CEN, CENELEC, ETSI, EC, and EFTA.

 

The SESEC’s mission is to enhance the visibility of European standardization activities, increase the cooperation between Chinese and European standardization bodies and support European companies facing standardization related issues hampering market access to China. The project also supports China in standardization related aspects of its integration in the WTO trading system, by identifying all potential opportunities for enhanced international cooperation and global harmonization of standards. Ultimately, the SESEC project aims at reducing the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) both between EU and China and globally, thus supporting European and Chinese industries by facilitating international trade.

 

The SESEC initiative also supports the EC policy and the European Standards Organizations (ESOs) strategic objectives in China. Its ultimate goal is the enhancement of EU-China dialogue and cooperation in the field of standardization. It is notably expected to support the Framework Cooperation Agreement in place between the ESOs and the Standardization Administration of China (SAC), the National Standardization Body (NSB) of China.

 

 

We are seeking a full-time, highly motivated Operational Assistant and a Legal Assistant.

1.    Operational Assistant

 

The operational assistant will perform the following tasks on a full-time basis:

–          Support SESEC IV in maintaining and widening Chinese government contacts

–          Arrange meetings and visits with Chinese stakeholders

–          Represent SESEC IV in Chinese standardization circles

–          Prepare a regular newsletter to be published in English on the SESEC website and to be distributed in China and Europe

–          Correspondence in Chinese

–          Interpretation and translation support

–          Independent research on standard- related topics in China

–          Maintain and update the SESEC website

–          Provide any operational /administrative support as required by SESEC IV

 

For this position, the following requirements are expected:

–          Academic degree in English, Engineering, Business or related topic

–          At least 5 years working experience in/with Chinese central government institutions

–          Excellent English skills

–          Native Chinese language proficiency

–          Diplomatic skills and good understanding of Chinese business protocol

–          Previous experience in standardization related fields is a strong asset

–          Independent and well organized

–          Previous experience in working with foreign government institutions is an advantage

 

2.    Legal Assistant

 

The legal assistant will perform the following tasks on a full-time basis:

–          Support SESEC IV in research and intelligence gathering on legislative and regulatory developments in China that impact standardization

–          Support SESEC IV in research and intelligence gathering on industry standardization policies in identified sectors in China

–          Support to SESEC IV reporting enquiries and feedbacks

–          Provide any organisational / administrative support as required by SESEC IV

 

For this position, the following requirements are expected:

–          Academic degree in Law, English or related topic

–          At least 3 years relevant working experience

–          Native Chinese language proficiency

–          Excellent English skills

–          Proficient user of Excel, Office and PowerPoint

–          Independent and well organized

–          Experience in standardization related fields is an advantage

–          Experience in/with Chinese central government institutions is an advantage
